Rev heads unleash your inner child at the V8 BillyKart Derby, Burleigh Heads

Have you started building your Billy Kart yet?  Entries are open for the first, fabulous V8 Gold Coast BillyKart Derby where karts of all shapes and sizes will zoom down James Street, Burleigh Heads from 9am on October 20.

Three classes include: primary (up to year 6), secondary (up to year 12) and open for everyone else.  Entrance fees will be donated to the local surf club, so buckle up for a fun day and a good cause.

Of course there are specific rules for size and weight of each Billy Kart, plus what a driver must wear, for your safety of course.  Check these out on the entry form.

Once you’ve watched your kids and friends, or participated yourself, there is still plenty to do for a fun-filled day.

Show ‘n’ Shine your Billy Kart in Memorial Park where some of Australia’s best V8 Supercar Drivers will be on hand to give the thumbs up.  Enjoy free music, browse the local art & craft markets or hang out in James Street checking out the chic boutiques, unique gift shops and cool cafes.

Frocked up and fabulous!

This month Burleigh Tourism took time out to chat with the effervescent Bethany, owner of Pop Up Shop on James and stylish fashion lover.

After holidaying with her family at Burleigh Heads for as long as she can remember, Bethany took the plunge and moved to the Gold Coast in 2003.

Burleigh Heads accommodation“When I moved, I decided to study a Fashion Production and Design Certificate then gained my first fashion retail position at Supre where I worked for three years managing stores.  One day I was asked to manage a local boutique and from there I’ve never looked back.

You chose Burleigh Heads to open Pop Up Shop on James.  Can you tell us why?

“Fashion and boutiques have always been my passion, and when I decided to open my own store, My Little Frock shop now Pop Up Shop, I chose Burleigh Heads because I’ve always known I would open one here. Continue reading

Coffee maestro

Burleigh Heads accommodationPaul Henley, originally from New Zealand, and his wife, Eve, opened Quest Coffee Roasters in Burleigh Heads, after Paul had a vision.

“I actually had a vision…no, really, I’d been to Burleigh Heads, of course, but only to the beach and had never really seen the back part of Burleigh (James Street). In my vision I had a shop on the back street of Burleigh which was pretty strange because when we came here I was looking on the beach front.  But somehow that just didn’t feel right and when I walked down here, this place was for sale and it felt like where I was supposed to be,” says Paul.
